Impacts on profit

The objective of this project was to analyze the profitability of customers based on various features, including discounts, geography, and product type. The project aimed to identify patterns and insights to help optimize the company's operations and maximize profitability. The story in tableau is available at https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/yossra.noureldien/viz/Impactsonprofit/Analysisofprofitsandlosses.

Key Findings:

1. Customer Profitability

The analysis revealed that the majority of customers generate profitable transactions for the company. They contribute positively to the company's bottom line.

2. High Profit, but Loss-Causing Customers

Surprisingly, there is a subset of customers who, despite generating high profits individually, collectively contribute to losses for the company.

3. Discount Impact

Discounts play a significant role in influencing profitability. Customers who receive higher discounts tend to have lower overall profitability. The relationship between discount levels and customer profitability is strong.

4. Geography Matters

Geography doesn't seem to have an impact on profitability. Almost all regions are consistent, however, there are outliers, e.g. Texas in which it causes losses.

5. Product Type Analysis

The type of product purchased by customers also affects profitability. Certain product types may have lower profit margins, impacting overall customer profitability.

Recommendations:

1. Customer Segmentation: Further analyze and segment customers based on their profitability and behavior to tailor marketing and sales strategies accordingly.

2. Discount Optimization: Review the discount structure to ensure it aligns with the company's profitability goals.

3. Regional Focus: Currently, it doesn't seem important to investigate the regions impacts on profitability.

4. Product Mix: Evaluate and adjust the product mix to emphasize higher-margin products and reduce reliance on low-margin items.
